With summer just around the corner, and lockdown restrictions easing, it's no surprise that OnBuy.com's outdoor recreation department has found that Google trends in the UK show that searches for 'staycations' have seen an 89% increase in the past month.
Eager to find out which cities in the UK are best for a summer staycation, HeatingForce.co.uk created an index-based point system taking into consideration various social and geographical factors. These factors include annual sunshine, annual rainfall, Airbnb prices, restaurant and ice cream shop ratings, alongside access to parks and outdoor activities.
Oxford, the only city in Oxfordshire and close to neighbouring Gloucestershire, came third...Oxford is the third best city for a UK staycation with a score of 307. Known for its beauty, Oxford ranks among the highest for average annual hours of sunshine (1,578 hours) and ice cream shop ratings (4.1 out of 5).
Alex Ion, expert from HeatingForce.co.uk, reveals his 'ABC' tips for travelling in the UK with your family:
"As many of us have not been away for a while it is important to have an active and dynamic holiday! When travelling with a range of age groups, it is important to have access to a variety of activities making a city break perfect! With most UK cities you are never too far from rural sites for leisurely walks or challenging hikes, whilst still being based in a buzzing location with restaurants, museums and entertainment for all ages and tastes."
"Due to the current climate, it's important to consider where you want to visit before travelling in a larger group with your family. Do a bit of extra research beforehand and book the key places you want to eat, drink and visit during your stay. This will give you peace of mind that you won't get turned away."
"As we all know when travelling with your family budgeting is key! But don't be too ridged – allow for unseen extra costs and emergencies. If you have planned and booked activities and restaurants in advance you will be able to gauge your budget better."
