Pick up a penguin experience with a summer visit to Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water
A recent new development is the revamped penguin enclosure, with the atmospheric redesign transforming it into a sleepy fishing village. The above and below water viewing areas of Penguin Shore have also been updated with brand new glass, to give visitors a clearer view of some of the park's celebrity birds. They include Spike, who has his own popular social media presence after appearing in an advert for biscuits and on TV with Sir David Attenborough, and Seth, the oldest male king penguin in Europe, Asia and Australia. Born in 1985, he starred in the blockbuster film Batman Returns, alongside the likes of Hollywood royalty such as Danny De Vito and Michelle Pfeiffer.
The park's daily summer holiday programme includes flamingos, penguins and pelican feeding throughout the day. Visitors can head to the Encounter Zone, where they can meet giant tortoises, pet rabbits and guinea pigs, or come face to face with a snake. Venture into the Jurassic Journey and spot dozens of life-sized dinosaurs.
Birdland cares for more than 500 birds, ranging from the UK's only breeding colony of king penguins and awesome birds of prey to parrots, cassowaries and cranes in a mix of free-flying and aviary displays.
