Tewkesbury Park, the luxury hotel and wedding venue set in 163 acres of stunning parkland and commanding an enviable position overlooking the famous site of the 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury, has created a Royal Breakaway package which includes: • Two nights' accommodation including breakfast
• One three-course evening meal with a bottle of Yealands Pinot Noir Rose
• Tickets to Sudeley Castle and the Queens' Garden - best known for its stunning display of over 70 varieties of roses
• Traditional Afternoon tea for two, with a glass of Taittinger Champagne
• One English Garden Spa Treatment (one treatment per room)
When it comes to royal connections, the historic town of Tewkesbury and the surrounding area is an Aladdin's Cave. Sudeley Castle, a short drive away located in the pretty chocolate-box village of Winchcombe, was the residence of Katherine Parr, the last surviving wife of King Henry VIII.
The castle is surrounded by a magnificent 1,200-acre estate and ten gardens. The centrepiece is the Queens' Garden, so named because four of England's queens - Anne Boleyn, Katherine Parr, Lady Jane Grey and Elizabeth I - once walked upon the original Tudor Parterre. Nowadays, the garden boasts over 70 varieties of roses.
Back at Tewkesbury, every July the town celebrates the Wars of the Roses Festival - a medieval festival commemorating the 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury. From May onwards, Tewkesbury takes on a notable difference when locals produce and display medieval banners outside their premises in readiness for this.
Available from 1st April until 31st October 2019, the Royal Breakaway offer is priced from £450 based on two sharing a Touch of Class guest room. An upgrade to an Opulence Suite is available for £650, and a stay in one of the sumptuous suites is an option for two nights (with all prices are based on double occupancy.)
