Five minutes with...Tony Marriott of Tony's Toons Caricatures

We catch up over a cuppa with Tony Marriott of Tony's Toons, the talented Gloucestershire-based caricature artist about what he offers, and loves most, about weddings...

What do you offer couples for their wedding day?

"My fun caricature service is split into two areas; the first being 'caricatures from photos' in which I offer the wedding couple a range of fun and bespoke caricature illustrations from guest boards, wedding favour caricatures or even thank you gifts for the best man and bridal party, plus members of the family too. The second being my entertainment service, where I draw live caricatures on the big day. I can be hired to draw for two, three or four hours, providing non-stop caricatures (which is approx 12 to 15 people an hour)."

How did the idea strike you to offer this kind of fun entertainment at a wedding?

"I started drawing live caricatures at a street craft market in Cheltenham. While I was there, I would often be asked whether I would draw at parties and weddings. I looked into this and found that there was a gap in the market for this type of unique entertainment in Gloucestershire, so decided to go for it!"

What's the best thing, for you, about working in the wedding industry?

"The best thing for me is to feel the buzz of fun and excitement that my caricatures generate at weddings! From the initial comments and laughter that come from on-lookers watching from behind me as they see their friends emerge from a blank sheet of paper to the smiles and even more laughter as I turn the paper around for the big reveal to the subjects!"
