Festival feeling

Kiera and Phil's multi-coloured, festival-themed summer wedding offered a relaxed vibe with personal homemade touches.

Kiera and Phil first met when she moved in next door to his friend Lucy. He made sure that Lucy threw a party and invited her. “I soon warmed to Phil's charm and kind heart,” Kiera tells us.

Three years later, the couple were engaged on Christmas Eve. “Phil hates walks but agreed to go on one first thing that morning,” Kiera explains. We visited the common near our house and when we got to a beautiful spot overlooking the town that we both grew up in, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, it was a huge surprise!”

Here, Kiera tells us about their festival-themed day…

Festival feeling: Image 1
We took a gamble with the great British weather and the summery day couldn't have been more perfect!

Festival feeling: Image 2aWe wrapped strings of pom poms around the balcony of the shepherd's hut where we cut our wedding cake.

Festival feeling: Image 2 We had sunflowers, dahlias, cosmos, salvia, verbena, lavender, roses and a few other flower varieties.

Festival feeling: Image 3
We gave miniature bottles of elderflower cordial as favours.

Festival feeling: Image 4aWe called in every favour that we could and got a team of ten close friends to help decorate the grounds. In the end it took us two days to complete.

Festival feeling: Image 4 We used ribbon from Bertie's Bows to transform the archway that we had our ceremony under.

We suspended a disco ball among the trees and also used lots of lights, bunting, pom poms and other décor to make the most of our venue.

Festival feeling: Image 6aOur chief bridesmaid created our order of the day cards along with the invitations, place cards, and signage – she did an amazing job!

Festival feeling: Image 6 We hired 20ft festival flags to lead guests from the car park to the entrance of the field.

Festival feeling: Image 7
I walked down the aisle to Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles and we walked back up it to You & I by the Crystal Fighters. There was a playlist of our favourite songs to entertain our guests for the rest of the day.

Festival feeling: Image 8aPhil's mum and stepdad grew and arranged all of our flowers (apart from the dahlias which came from my mum and stepdad's garden).

Festival feeling: Image 8 Phil wore a dusky pink pair of chinos with a white shirt while the groomsmen wore blue chinos and a white shirt.

Festival feeling: Image 9
I arrived with my bridesmaids in a bright yellow VW Campervan decorated with bunting and pom poms.

Festival feeling: Image 10aWe created a wall of ribbon strung from the archway where guests entered and first saw the venue.

Festival feeling: Image 10 My dress was an elegant strapless design that I teamed with an arrangement of wild flowers. I also wore fresh flowers in my hair.

Festival feeling: Image 11
Our bridesmaids wore mint dresses from the bridal department at Hobbs.

Festival feeling: Image 12aWe hung brightly coloured lanterns around the yurt.

Festival feeling: Image 12 Our table plan was made from cork boards with the stationery designed by our arty chief bridesmaid pinned onto it.

Festival feeling: Image 13
We opted for benches joined by one long one at the top as our seating arrangement so we didn't have table names.

Festival feeling: Image 14aOur wedding cake was a beautiful three-tiered white chocolate and champagne naked cake baked as a wedding gift by our very dear friends Maggie and Gemma.

Festival feeling: Image 14 We had wine bottles sprayed gold that we recycled from a friend's wedding the year before and displayed flowers in them.
