Father’s Day taking place at this time of the year has inspired my letter this issue. I know that I am very fortunate to have a wonderful dad with whom I have such a close bond. He has devoted his life to being our father, and my brother and myself wouldn’t be where we are today without his love, encouragement and support from our childhood years, through our teens into early adulthood and beyond. This included supporting us through both of our weddings and it’s this father-of-the-bride and-groom role (whether he’s your biological dad or stepfather) that’s often the subtle backbone to the day. Some offer financial support, others are there in the background ensuring that everything is running smoothly, calming your nerves as you prepare to walk down the aisle and entertaining loved ones with a humorous and heartfelt speech. It’s hard to know how to thank him, which is where my hand-picked selection of the season’s latest buys come in. Whatever your budget, there will be something to suit him.

Rebecca (known as Becky) and Andrew (known as Andy) married at All Saints’ Church in Down Ampney, Gloucestershire, on 26th May, 2017, with a reception at Matara.

This idyllic hideaway is set in 15 acres of grounds that include a private lake. The five stylish holiday cottages on-site accommodate wedding guests and the venue is available for private hire for the entire weekend offering total flexibility for couples. The Crown Inn is just a short stroll away for seasonal dishes served in front of a roaring log fire and further guest accommodation.
Ceremonies take place in the 13th-century parish church called St Nicholas that’s situated through a gate in the Upper Court gardens. Non-residents can marry here by arrangement and for those wanting a Catholic ceremony, there’s St. Benet’s church just down the lane. The venue also offers a large reception in a stunning marquee by the lake.
